5 Places To Visit In Majorca

Despite being an island, Majorca has a lot to offer and a big variety of landscapes, cities and things to do. You can find mountains, some of the best beaches in the world and some top level night-life. The range is pretty broad and you’ll definitely be able to find something to fit everyones needs. After living on the island over a year now I’ve had the opportunity to travel around a fair bit so decided to choose my 5 favourite places to visit.

Palma de Mallorca

Where I currently live and the biggest city in Majorca, Palma is a beautiful city which is neither too big nor too small to really enjoy. Wandering the streets in the old town really takes you back in time and you can appreciate the architecture and quiet areas. You can find some great night-life here, restaurants, museums the famous cathedral and more. Check out the top 10 things to do in Palma de Majorca once you’re there.

Deia

cala deia

A small idylic village not too far from Palma, Deia is a place to relax. Deia is known for the famous English Poet Robert Graves who moved here in 1929 and his house is now a museum to visit. I would recommend a lovely little bar Sa Fonda which is right in the centre of the village with a beautiful terrace under the trees. You can also scramble down to the Cala de Deia or Cala Llucalcari 2 gorgeous little coves and many people come there to swim and some follow the tradition of nude bathing.

Soller

Another beautiful village not too far from Deia and in the mountains. The best way to get to Soller is on the old train from Palma and part of the whole experience of the visit. The Soller train passes through beautiful countryside and with it’s traditional style is like going back in time. Once you arrive in Soller you’ll often find some markets, cute little shops and plenty of tapas bars. It’s common to then continue down to the Port de Soller which is just a short tram ride, also part of the experience and here you will find a beautiful port and beach with some fantastic views.

Formentor

Formentor is located on the tip of the north east part of the island, you can find Formentor Beach here and a short drive up some winding roads, one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the island. The beach is special because it’s shaded by pine trees and surrounded by mountains creating a beautiful view of nature rather than the usual look out to sea. If you have a car, it’s a great idea to drive up to the viewpoint Cap de Formentor and enjoy a drink whilst admiring the sights. However it could be a little scary if you’re afraid of heights! On your way to Formentor you can also find the town of Pollenca which is full of shops, markets, restaurants and a beach. There are plenty of hiking routes in this area too!

Es Trenc

Es Trenc the longest beach in Majorca. But it’s not located near to any resorts making it a bit more wild and natural. The 2km of beach is fairly popular in summer and there are also a few bars nearby and I would personally recommend Bar Esperanza. Right next to the beach and you will probably see it as you drive there are the salt mines where they make the salt in Majorca, you’ll see them piled high and reflecting in the sun.

I hope this summer I’ll get the chance to visit many more parts of Majorca and discover everything that this beautiful island has to offer. I will keep you updated! Where are your favourite places to visit in Majorca? I’d love to hear 🙂

  1. Very good article. I would include a visit to the Caves of Drach in Porto Cristo, the wonderful village of Valldemossa and typical ‘coca de patata’, Sa Calobra and the Torrent de Pareis. To enjoy the island, transport is responsible mytaxi4you 😉
