Summer has arrived, the weather has started to improve and the beach days and coming back around. Mallorca has over 200 different beaches and coves across the whole island and some of them are famous worldwide. Whether you’re looking for a small cove or a long sandy beach, you can find a bit of everything. Even from the centre of the capital city, Palma de Mallorca, you can find some beautiful beaches just a short drive away.

Here are my favourite 5 beaches which are less than a 30 minute drive from the centre of Palma.

1. Illetas Beach

This beautiful small sandy beach is just 9km from Palma and has some of the clearest waters in the nearby area. There are restaurants, bars and shops around but the rest of this area is rather quiet. To get there by car takes around 20 minutes but you can also catch the number 3 bus from Palma to the beach in around 25 minutes. 🏝

2. Caló des Grells

Calo des Grells is only about a 10 minute drive from Palma and is more or a rocky cove than a beach. The waters are very clear here too and it’s usually fairly quiet. It’s also got a reputation for being a non/official nudist beach so don’t be afraid if some people are more revealing than others 😅

3. Cala Blava

Cala Blava is a mixture between rock and sand depending which end you decide to place your towel. The rocky areas can be much quieter and it’s a really nice beach with crystal waters, perfect for scuba diving. You can get there by car in just 20 minutes or take the 520 bus from Palma in around 40 minutes. ☀

4. Delta

Delta beach is another rocky area to the east of Palma and only around 25 minutes by car. It’s an ideal place if you want to avoid too many tourists and feel a bit more in the wild than your typical sandy beach. 👌

5. Playa de Palma

Playa de Palma is the name for the 6km of beach which runs from C’an Pastilla until the El Arenal resort. It may be a popular area but there’s certainly plenty of space here. The water is clear and shallow and there are a huge amount of bars and restaurants along the shore where you can grab a refreshing drink. 🍹
